SYMPOSIUM FOR KOREAN ART CURATORS

SEPTEMBER 30 - OCTOBER 1, 2016 / THE KOREA SOCIETY, NEW YORK, U.S.

In celebration of the 25th anniversary of its founding, the Korea Foundation will hold a Symposium for Korean Art Curators with The Korea Society in New York City from September 30 to October 1, 2016. Representatives of cultural institutions from both the United States and Korea will explore the “Challenges in presenting Korean arts and culture at museums in the U.S.”

Over the past 25 years, the Korea Foundation has helped 28 museums in 10 countries realize their goals of dedicated gallery space for Korean art. We’ve offered a variety of support for exhibitions and education programs and nurtured Korean-art specialists. The Foundation’s “Workshop for Korean-Art Curators” has been held annually since 1999 with the aim of enhancing in-depth knowledge of the intricacies of Korean arts and facilitating the formation of personal networks among curators of Korean art.

In this 25th anniversary year, the Korea Foundation sees an opportunity to expand its legacy by co-hosting a symposium dedicated to the programs and activities of Korean galleries. Accordingly, this special occasion will bring together Korean- and Asian-art curators and relevant scholars to present perspectives and share opinions. The Symposium will also include field trips to Korean cultural activities in the New York City area.
